My name is Andrea Becca and my professional background is quite different to that of the traditional translator.

After university and having passed the Trinity College Cambridge English language exams, I became a professional journalist working for some of the best Italian economic journals. Moving on from editing, I worked as head of the press office at one of Italy's principal banks, where I became intimately aware of the internal working of a financial institution: from the securities to credit control, from legal to gold deposits. Most importantly, I became friends with some of the more important fund managers in Italy

For personal reasons in 2002, I asked for a transfer to Ventimiglia to be able to better look after my son's health. My learning curve started once again from zero, from looking after cash desks to becoming the bank's area manager. However, my background and training soon matched the practical needs of managing, organising and selling financial products.

Were I to say that I was a good banker, it would be a lie.
It was the worst of times.

I could see the effects of the failure of the New Economy and the reckless management and downfall of the Parmalat group. I saw bank employees fight to stay honest with and faithful to their clients against banking directors' wishes which were a reflection of the changes in society.

I started to do some translating work and to work on translations at the bank.
If the truth be told, I was not a very good banker at the end of the day!

I tried to explain the investments which I was recommending, trying to avoid putting even more pressure on those already up to their eyes in debt. I refused to follow only my budget targets.
Arising from this experience, I started to write to friends about various banking and branch matters. Advice soon took on the form of several short books. If you are interested, you can download entirely free one of them here which talks about what to be on the lookout for in the credit sector.
At the same time, I also continued to do a spot of studying and took a Masters in Specialist Translation at Pisa.

Over time, I developed a working relationship with another translator from Ireland doing the same course at Pisa, Michael McCann, who had more than thirty years' translation experience under his belt and who had a translation agency in Ireland. It was around this time that the bank and I went our separate ways, and I decided to work full-time with a group of trusted translators.
We can now offer a high-quality translation service specialising in financial, economic and accountancy texts which are then proofed by experts in those fields.
As Umberto Eco writes:
